On Monday, 44 different lists for the Swiss National Council elections were submitted to the canton of Zurich by the deadline of 5 pm. This is eight more than in the elections four years ago. All established Zurich parties submitted election proposals, with the Swiss People's Party (SVP) submitting four additional lists (Young SVP, KMU, Secondos and Over 55) and the Social Democratic Party (SP) submitting three additional lists (JUSO, Queer and 60+). Additionally, numerous other groups have registered candidates, such as "Mass-Voll" and "Aufrecht", which were formed during the pandemic. Other groups include a "Care List", a "Party Against Exclusion" and a group called "Less is More". The canton is now examining the submitted election proposals for validity. On Thursday, August 17th, the list numbers of those parties and groups that are not represented in the National Council or the Zurich Cantonal Council will be drawn, and the names of the candidates will be published. Only then will further information be available, such as the total number of candidates and the proportion of women. The Swiss National Council elections will take place on October 22, 2023. Due to population growth, the canton of Zurich will have one more seat, for a total of 36 National Council members.nnnnnn
