Michael Jackson's life is told in a biopic, Renée Zellweger is back as "Bridget Jones" and Timothée Chalamet embodies Bob Dylan: the new cinema year promises many highlights. An overview:

"LIKE A COMPLETE UNKNOWN"

He spent five years working on his vocals to embody the music legend Bob Dylan: Timothée Chalamet can now be seen in "Like A Complete Unknown" (original title: "A Complete Unknown") from February 27. In it, the Hollywood star plays Dylan at a young age. The film by James Mangold focuses on the singer-songwriter's early career in New York in the 1960s. At the premiere in New York, Chalamet recently dressed up with blonde hair and a woolly hat in the exact look that Dylan himself wore at a film premiere in the early noughties.

"BRIDGET JONES - CRAZY ABOUT HIM"

The fourth part of the legendary romantic comedy series "Bridget Jones" will be released on February 13. Renée Zellweger as the protagonist has to deal with the death of her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and raises two children alone. To the delight of many fans, Hugh Grant is back as Jones' former lover Daniel Cleaver.

DISNEY REMAKE "SNOW WHITE"

A classic from 1937 is coming back to the cinema: the Disney film "Snow White". Rachel Zegler ("West Side Story") can be seen in the leading role, Gal Gadot ("Wonder Woman") plays the stepmother. The Swiss-German cinema release of the remake of the fairy tale is March 20.

PAMELA ANDERSON IN "THE LAST SHOWGIRL"

Actress Pamela Anderson has been experiencing a renaissance for a while now. The former "Baywatch" star first attracted attention for appearing on the world's red carpets without make-up - and received a lot of praise for it. Now she is being considered for an Oscar for her leading role in "The Last Showgirl" - she has already been nominated for a Golden Globes. Anderson plays a dancer in Las Vegas in the film, which opens on March 20.

"SEPTEMBER 5" BY SWISS DIRECTOR FEHLBAUM

It was a surprise hit at international film festivals: "September 5" by Swiss director Tim Fehlbaum. The thriller tells the story of the 1972 Olympic bombing in Munich, when Palestinian terrorists took Israeli athletes hostage and ultimately murdered them. The film, which opens in cinemas on January 9, has been nominated for a Golden Globe.

A NEW "SUPERMAN"

It's supposed to be a reboot of the movie series: James Gunn's "Superman" blockbuster, which will be released in July. The director wants to counteract a certain fatigue towards superhero films by placing a stronger focus on the characters and their relationships with one another. Clark Kent is played by David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") becomes Lois Lane.

"CAPTAIN AMERICA" UND "FANTASTIC FOUR": NEUE MARVEL-FILME

After recent failures, only one film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was released in 2024 - but that is set to change again in 2025. 'Captain America: Brave New World' is the fourth installment in the 'Captain America' Marvel film series. Anthony Mackie plays the title role - and Harrison Ford is also involved. The movie is due to be released in February. The release of the Marvel film "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is then planned for July. Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby are part of the celebrity cast.

"THE CANOE OF MANITU" BY AND WITH BULLY HERBIG

Over 20 years ago, "Der Schuh des Manitu" became one of the most successful German films. So it is almost surprising that it took so long for director Michael (Bully) Herbig to dare to make a sequel. Part two, "Das Kanu des Manitu", will be released on August 14. Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian are back again. It will be exciting to see how Herbig embodies the role of the "Abahachi" chief in the year 2025 - when much more sensitive thought is now being given to the portrayal of indigenous people.

BIOPIC "MICHAEL" WITH JAAFAR JACKSON

It is the first biopic about the "King of Pop" to be released in cinemas: "Michael", the new film by Antoine Fuqua. Particularly moving: Michael Jackson (1958-2009) is played by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, who was born in 1996. The film, which is about Jackson's eventful life and music career, is expected to be released in cinemas in October.

"F1: FORMULA ONE MOVIE WITH BRAD PITT AND JAVIER BARDEM

Brad Pitt has been appearing at Formula 1 races for some time now - a prelude to his new action film "F1", which is due to be released in cinemas in June. In Joseph Kosinski's blockbuster, Pitt plays a former Formula 1 driver who returns as a mentor. Javier Bardem is also part of the cast. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton worked on the film, which was partly shot during the race weekends, as a consultant and co-producer.

A NEW "AVATAR", A SECOND "WICKED": FURTHER HIGHLIGHTS

The list of cinema highlights could go on and on. For example, film fans can look forward to the erotic drama "Babygirl" with Nicole Kidman (theatrical release January 30).

Among the many other highlights is the third film in James Cameron's "Avatar" series, which will probably be released in December: "Avatar: Fire and Ash". The second part of the acclaimed musical blockbuster "Wicked" is also likely to be released at the end of the year. A new "Mission: Impossible" with Tom Cruise is also planned. The eighth part of the series, "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning", will be released in May. Action fans can also look forward to "Karate Kid: Legends" with Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.
