“Tilo” Unveiled at the 175th Anniversary of the Federal House

At 6.48pm on Tuesday, the artwork "Tilo" was unveiled in the tympanum of the Federal House to music, in the presence of numerous parliamentarians and a beaming Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider. Behind "Tilo" stands the artist couple Renée Levi and Marcel Schmid. The artwork consists of 246 ceramic plates that reflect light differently. They stand for the 200 seats in the National Council and the 46 seats in the Council of States. The gable field of the Parliament building in Bern, which has been empty for 120 years, has thus been given a modern decoration. The mosaic is named in honour of one of the first Swiss National Councillors, "Tilo". The event began with pop music and was moderated in three languages. Federal Councillor Baume-Schneider declared on X, formerly Twitter, "Today, when democracy is threatened in many parts of the world, we can be proud of a constitution that respects human dignity, protects against discrimination and strengthens equality of opportunity, diversity, tolerance and freedom".
