Wild animals pay no attention to traffic or the time change for humans. In view of the changeover to summer time next Sunday, Swiss animal protection warns against collisions with deer, badgers and other wild animals.
The risk of collisions is higher because more people will be driving their cars in the dark again from Monday morning, as the Swiss Animal Protection Association (STS) writes in a press release on Wednesday. Drivers should therefore slow down and drive "even more attentively".
In addition to the heavier traffic at dusk, the current mating season is also a challenge. Because badgers and polecats, for example, are concentrating on breeding, they pay even less attention to traffic. Drivers should therefore keep a close eye on the right-hand side of the road.
If, despite all caution, a collision with a wild animal occurs, the police must be informed. Under no circumstances should you get too close to an injured animal, writes the STS, as this could frighten the animals and aggravate their injuries if they try to escape or defend themselves. Dead animals should be pulled to the side of the road by their hind legs.
