On Friday evening, the train and road traffic in Winterthur was restricted due to a suspicious object. The police were on the scene at the Grüze station for around three hours. This caused delays and cancellations in the train traffic from Winterthur. Shortly after 6pm, the police were alerted to a suspicious object at the Winterthur-Grüze station. For safety reasons, the station and the surrounding area were quickly evacuated and the area was cordoned off. According to the SBB, the train traffic in the Winterthur Grüze station came to a complete standstill. Specialists from the Forensic Institute Zurich secured the suspicious object and took it for further examination. The police did not reveal what the object was. The St. Gallerstrasse and Talackerstrasse in Winterthur remained closed until 9.30pm and the train traffic at the Grüze station was also restricted until this time. An SBB spokesman confirmed to Keystone-SDA on Friday evening that there were longer-term restrictions in the long-distance train traffic from Winterthur to Wil and St. Gallen and restrictions in the regional train traffic from Winterthur to Tösstal.
