TREND: No majority for national road expansion in Basel-Stadt

In the canton of Basel-Stadt, a clear "no" to the expansion of the national highway is emerging after the postal votes have been counted. The A2 Rhine tunnel, costing CHF 2.6 billion, is by far the most expensive section of the expansion project to be discussed in the canton.
According to the Basel State Chancellery, 55.9% of postal votes were cast against the federal proposal to expand the motorway network. The postal votes in Basel-Stadt account for over 90 percent of the total number of votes. The trend report is therefore considered reliable.
