The Italian mountain rescue team rescued a German alpinist who had suffered an accident on Monte Rosa on Monday afternoon. His uninjured climbing partner was rescued by Swiss rescuers. The injured man had fallen from the ridge to the Dufourspitze, as reported by the Italian news agency Adnkronos.

The rescue services were alerted by a person from Germany who had been informed of the mountain emergency by her relatives. The Piedmont mountain rescue team flew a helicopter to the accident site between the Zumstein and Dufourspitze peaks. One of the rescuers got out and found the fallen climber. He had head injuries.

His uninjured climbing partner was still on the ridge, but was unable to continue on his own. The crew of the Italian helicopter flew the injured man to hospital. The companion was rescued by Swiss rescuers.
