Two Bernese charged with multiple frauds involving millions of euros

A 75-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman - both living in the city of Bern - are alleged to have faked a life at subsistence level for years and committed fraud amounting to CHF 17 million. The public prosecutor has now brought charges.
Following "extensive investigations", the public prosecutor's office and the police succeeded in proving the commission of multiple cases of seizure fraud, multiple attempted and completed fraud and multiple forgery of documents, the public prosecutor's office for white-collar crime and the Bern cantonal police announced on Wednesday.
The man and woman are accused of having faked a life at subsistence level to various Bernese authorities for several years, while in reality they had assets worth millions. The cantonal public prosecutor's office for economic offenses charged the two Swiss nationals at the Economic Criminal Court. The accused have not confessed, it is said.
