Two people in hospital after fire in Ticino

Following a fire in an industrial warehouse in Lumino TI near Bellinzona, two people have been taken to hospital for checks. The fire, which was fanned by the wind, spread rapidly on Saturday and caused a lot of smoke. There was extensive damage to property.
The extinguishing work was completed at 6.30 a.m., the Ticino cantonal police announced on Sunday. The police assume that the fire started in one of the warehouses of the industrial building, which was used for self-storage. The fire later spread to an adjacent building, a restaurant and an apartment.
The fire broke out for unknown reasons at around 1.30 pm. Several fire departments and specialists from the air, water and soil protection department were on site.
As a precautionary measure, the authorities advised residents not to open their windows and not to approach the scene of the fire. The cantonal road was closed at the scene of the fire.
