The situation in the canton of Valais has returned to normal following the storms on Wednesday. The cantonal government declared the end of the so-called "special situation". It had announced this situation on June 30 during the flooding of the Rhone and its tributaries.
Although numerous repair works are still underway, the situation has currently stabilized, the canton of Valais announced. For this reason, the State Council has decided to lift the "special situation". This status allows the canton to deploy additional resources in the event of damage and to request assistance from the army.
However, the geological situation and the situation near watercourses will need more time to stabilize, the authorities warned. Landslides could still occur locally.
The storms in Valais at the end of June caused flooding of the Rhone and its tributaries. Debris flows and landslides caused extensive damage. The Saas Valley, Goms, Val d'Anniviers, Sierre, Chippis and Val de Bagnes regions were particularly affected.
