Twelve days after the storms in the canton, Valais State Councillor Christophe Darbellay has thanked all the helpers involved. The emergency services, fire departments, army and civil defense as well as many private individuals did everything they could to overcome this crisis.
The second phase is now beginning, which involves restoring the industrial sites, particularly in the hard-hit towns of Sierre and Chippis. The head of the Department of Economic Affairs and Education said this at a media conference in Sierre on Thursday.
The floods paralyzed large parts of industry in Sierre and Chippis. The two companies specializing in aluminium products, Constellium and Novelis, had to shut down their operations.
The multinational company Novelis supplies the automotive industry throughout Europe. Constellium manufactures railroad materials. Around 1200 people work at the entire industrial site.
