Viola Amherd visits the traditional costume festival in Zurich in a trouser suit

President Viola Amherd (center) visited the Federal Costume Festival in Zurich on Sunday - not in a traditional Valais costume, however, but in a pink trouser suit.
Unfortunately, she couldn't keep up here with her business look, she admitted in her short speech. Her predecessor Alain Berset had it easier last summer in Zurich. "He wore a feather boa and was already dressed appropriately," she said, alluding to Berset's appearance at the Street Parade.
Mayor in Bernese Sunday costume
At the traditional costume festival, however, the effort is much greater. "I admire your traditional costumes all the more," said Amherd on Bürkliplatz. The Mayor of Zurich, Corine Mauch (SP), used the occasion to wear her great-great-great-grandmother's Sunday costume from Bern. "I may not have done everything correctly," she said, apologizing to the people in traditional costume.
