The Canton of Valais has passed a law to reform the state prosecutor's office in order to address issues that have been identified in recent years. The law creates a General Secretariat, appoints court clerks and makes other changes to the institution. It aims to relieve the General Prosecutor of administrative tasks and allow them to focus on the overall management of the prosecutor's office, general criminal policy and the handling of important cases. The law also provides for the appointment of court clerks who can investigate and issue fines of up to 90 days if the penalty does not exceed this amount. This will reduce the workload of the substitutes or even the prosecutors themselves. The law was unanimously approved by the Grand Council in a single reading and all factions were satisfied with the reform. In November, the Grand Council will elect the successors of General Prosecutor Nicolas Dubuis and his deputy Lucie Wellig, who both resigned earlier this year. Dubuis cited the amount of administrative tasks in his role as one of the reasons for his departure.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
