The Muotathal "weather forecaster" Martin Horat died on Saturday in Rothenthurm at the age of 79. He wrote his half-yearly forecasts for the "Innerschwyzer Meteorologen" association based on the observation of ants.

Horat thus became known throughout Switzerland. The local radio stations in Central Switzerland, Radio Sunshine and Radio Central, reported the news of his death on Sunday following an interview with "Wetterschmöcker" president Josef Bürgler.

According to him, Horat had been ill for some time. The trained farmer and tool salesman made his first forecast in 1987 at the Muotathal weather prophets' meeting. Since then, he has also appeared in commercials, among other things.

With the jokes and sayings in his forecasts, he gained great popularity over the years. The "Innerschwyzer Meteorologen" association now has several thousand members. Hundreds attend the meetings at which the six "weather experts" present their forecasts to the great amusement of the audience.
