A 48-year-old woman had to face questions from the judges of the Lucerne Criminal Court on Wednesday. The defendant tearfully denied the charge of attempted murder of her mother.

She had not tried to poison her mother with antifreeze, the woman explained. Confronted by the judge with the Google searches for poisons, the defendant said that she had been looking for ways to kill herself. She was mentally unstable at the time.

On the day of the killing, she had gone to her mother with the intention of having a clarifying conversation. The alleged poisoning had caused tension between her and her children. She had lured her son - who was living with his grandmother at the time - out of the house on a pretext so that she could talk to her mother alone.

When she refused to let her in, she climbed into the house through an open window. Her mother then insulted her and asked her to leave the house. The defendant refused because she wanted to resolve the conflict. They pushed each other on the stairs, whereupon the mother fell onto the landing.

The accused partially confessed. She stated that her mother had verbally humiliated her. She did not remember choking her mother and hitting her head against the stairs, but based on the autopsy report, this must have been the case.

She then searched the house for a pillow to put under her mother's head as she was injured. But she realized that, according to the autopsy report, she must have pressed the pillow on her mother's face. She only remembers that the mother simply did not want to be quiet.

She described her relationship with her mother as difficult. Her mother had controlled her life since she was little. After her father's death, the situation became even worse. Her mother had built up a hatred towards her. She said that she constantly judged her and portrayed her as bad.

Towards the end of the interrogation, the accused emphasized that she had not planned the murder. She had not wanted it. Therefore, if she was found guilty, she did not deserve the maximum sentence. She continued to vehemently deny the charge of attempted murder.
