At Zurich Airport in September, as in previous months, significantly more passengers travelled than in the same period last year. The passenger count at Switzerland's largest airport is also practically back to pre-crisis levels. In total, 2.8 million passengers travelled through Zurich Airport in September. This is 21% more than in the same month last year, according to a statement released on Wednesday. This means that the airport has returned to its old level: the number of passengers corresponds to 98% of the passenger numbers in September 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic and the associated travel restrictions. Of the 2.8 million passengers, 70% were local passengers and 30% used Zurich Airport to transfer to another flight. Take-offs and landings increased by 13% compared to the same month last year, to 23,310. This means that the number of flights is also close to the level of 2019 (96%). According to the statement, 140 passengers travelled per flight, 5% more than in the same month last year. The occupancy rate of the flights increased accordingly by one percentage point to 83%.
