Since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, 117 trucks carrying aid have arrived in the Gaza Strip, according to UN figures. Despite the small amount, the goods will play a “decisive role” in strengthening essential health care in Gaza, among other things, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in Geneva.

According to the United Nations, an average of 500 trucks enter the Gaza Strip each weekday, which is necessary to provide the 2.2 million people there with the essentials. Before the war began, an average of 100 truckloads were needed daily to meet the needs of the population.

On Sunday, 33 trucks arrived in the sealed-off coastal strip, making it the largest delivery in one day since the war began. These included water, food and medicine. “The increase is welcome, but a much larger amount is constantly needed to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation, including civil unrest.”

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is concerned that the lack of humanitarian goods could lead to a breakdown in order. On Sunday, thousands of people broke into aid distribution centers and aid points to take flour and other items such as hygiene products.
