Swiss Construction Group Implenia Secures Major Tunnel Project in Norway

Implenia and Stangeland Maskin win the E02 Kvitsøy tunnel project, a key part of the world’s longest and deepest underwater tunnel.

Construction group Implenia has secured another major contract in Norway. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration awarded the E02 Kvitsøy project on Norway’s west coast to Implenia and Stangeland Maskin, as announced by the Swiss company on Friday.

The project involves constructing an approximately 8.8 kilometer long tunnel with two tubes, totaling over 540 million Swiss francs. Implenia’s share amounts to over 420 million Swiss francs.

The tunnel, situated around 230 meters below sea level, runs south and north of the municipality of Kvitsøy. Implenia is responsible for the tunneling work and interior construction. Norwegian partner Stangeland Maskin will handle the transportation of excavated material and road construction.

The E02 Kvitsøy tunnel is part of the E39 Rogfast tunnel, the world’s longest and deepest underwater tunnel. Construction will start in late summer and is expected to be completed by 2030.

With this contract, Implenia and Stangeland Maskin now manage around 70% of the Rogfast project. They are also involved in constructing the E03 Boknafjord tunnel.
