Swiss companies expect employment prospects to remain good in the second quarter of 2024 despite the difficult environment. Almost half of the companies surveyed by recruitment agency Manpower expect staff numbers to rise.

Specifically, 47% of companies stated that they expect the number of employees to increase. A further 32 percent expect no change and 18 percent see a decrease, as Manpower announced on Tuesday.

According to Manpower, this results in a forecast net employment outlook (NEO) of 29%. Although this figure is 4 percentage points lower than the previous quarter, it is still higher than the same period last year.

Six out of seven Swiss regions reported a positive outlook with values between 21 and 50 percent. Only Ticino reported a negative value of minus 14%.

In a European comparison, Switzerland is doing well, emphasised Manpower. It is in second place in the EMEA region behind the Netherlands and 14 points above the regional average in terms of recruitment expectations.
