A train derailment near the Swiss-Italian border prompts a service interruption on the Brig VS-Domodossola line.
The train line between Brig VS and Domodossola is still interrupted today following the train derailment the previous day. Replacement buses are running between Preglia and Domodossola in Italy, as BLS informed the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday.
On Sunday, a BLS train heading towards Valais derailed around 15 kilometers from the Swiss border. There were 150 people on board. No one was injured in the accident.
The accident was caused by boulders on the tracks near Preglia outside Domodossola. A train traveling from the opposite direction to Domodossola was stopped in time.
At weekends, the Simplon route is mainly used by tourists, while many cross-border commuters use the route during the week.
