The Federal Council has released CHF 53 million from the railway expansion program for this capacity expansion.

Another CHF 127 million will be used for projects that have already been approved and for cost-of-living adjustments, as the Federal Council announced on Wednesday. On Wednesday, he released a total of CHF 180 million from the “Future Development of Railway Infrastructure” (ZEB) railway expansion program.

The core, however, is the expansion and modernization of the Lausanne-Palézieux route, from which commuters between Lausanne and Bern will benefit, as the announcement revealed. The 53 million Swiss francs were used to build a new signal box, to replace the lost parking spaces for trains and to make adjustments to the signalling.

The ZEB program is the successor project to Bahn 2000. Including the existing agreements, the federal government has now released more than 95 percent of the funds granted.
