Reported by the Ticino Police Deported
Mendrisiotto was the scene of a distressing incident today as a fire ravaged a dwelling located on Via Gaggiolo in Stabio, erupting just past 6:15 PM. Preliminary findings point to the blaze igniting in the kitchen within a second-level flat, with official conclusions pending from police inquiries.
The urgency of the situation prompted an immediate mobilization of various emergency services. The Cantonal Police led the charge, assisted by officers from the Mendrisio Municipal Police. The Mendrisiotto Auto Ambulance Service’s paramedics quickly responded alongside the dedicated firefighters from the Mendrisiotto Cantonal Fire Brigade Rescue Centre. Together, they managed to quell the flames.
The house’s lone inhabitant was promptly transported to a medical facility in the wake of the fire. This measure was purely preventive and aimed at treating potential smoke inhalation. The property was not spared, suffering from extensive damages that underscore the fire’s severity.
The operations to combat the fire and carry out subsequent investigations significantly impacted the local traffic flow. A stretch of the roadway near the incident was temporarily sealed off.
