Flood Risk Due to Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rains cause flooding of the Thur and Sitter rivers in Thurgau, with Alertswiss warning of continued flood risk until Saturday morning.

In the canton of Thurgau, the Thur and Sitter rivers have been flooding since Friday afternoon. Alertswiss reported a risk of flooding, and federal information indicates that the heavy rainfall along the northern slope of the Alps east of the Reuss will continue until Saturday morning.

There is also a significant risk of flooding in the Upper Rhine, according to the federal government’s natural hazards bulletin. Additionally, there is a moderate risk of flooding in the Limmat, the Reuss, the Linth, and in Lake Zurich and Lake Walen.

The precipitation is expected to gradually decrease from the west during the night into Saturday, before ending in eastern Switzerland on Saturday morning, according to the federal government’s natural hazards bulletin.

From Friday morning to Saturday morning, a further 40 to 70 mm of precipitation is expected on the northern slopes of the Alps east of the Reuss, in parts of northern Graubünden, and from the Lower Toggenburg through the Fürstenland to St. Gallen. On the rest of the northern slopes of the Alps and in the central and eastern Mittelland, precipitation amounts of 20 to 50 millimeters are expected.
