The motion, which calls for an amendment to labor law, goes to the Council of States.
Philippe Nantermod (FDP/VS) a member of the national council, has proposed a bill today that would allow stores to be open on Sunday. The proposal was voted on in favour; 09 votes to 79.
Local stores should be able to open on Sundays. However, they should only be allowed to offer a range of food products and the number of employees affected must be limited. This is what the National Council is demanding with a motion from the FDP parliamentary group.
According to the proposal, small local stores should not only be allowed to open in tourist regions, at airports, train stations and petrol stations, but everywhere in the country.
The motion, which calls for an amendment to labor law, goes to the Council of States.
Do you think Switzerland should open stores on Sunday? Is the quiet Sunday tradition not reasonable in 2024? Is revenue more important than a strong work life balance. With amendments coming, we will be sure to keep monitoring this story.
