On Monday, traffic at the north portal of the Gotthard Tunnel became congested again. The length of the line of cars was 10 kilometres between Erstfeld and Göschenen UR, resulting in a delay of up to one hour and forty minutes. At the south portal, the length of the queue was two kilometres, causing a delay of twenty minutes. Over the weekend, there were also traffic jams at the Gotthard, with the Uri cantonal police reporting a maximum length of 18 kilometres on Saturday. Despite the high traffic volume over the weekend, no new records were set. The longest traffic jam of the year so far occurred at the Gotthard North Portal during the Pentecost weekend, when the line of cars and trucks reached a length of 20 kilometres. Traffic jams around the weekends are expected to continue at the Gotthard. The TCS predicts that in July, due to the ongoing summer holidays, there will be more traffic towards Italy, especially between Friday and Monday. The TCS expects the 10-kilometre mark to be easily exceeded on these days, and also warns of traffic jams on the A13 San Bernardino route.
