In Germany, around 18 kilometers northwest of Laufenburg AG, the earth shook with a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale on Thursday night. According to the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), the earthquake was felt throughout Switzerland.

The SED registered the quake shortly after 3.00 a.m., according to the website. Over 1200 reports had already been received during the night, as the SED reported in response to a query from the Keystone-SDA news agency. In some cases, the earthquake was felt within a radius of over 100 kilometers from the epicentre. Minor damage is occasionally possible in the event of an earthquake of this magnitude near the epicenter.

The last noticeable quake in the area north of Laufenburg was measured in 2018 with a magnitude of 3.1, the SED continued. Earthquakes are not unusual in this region. In Switzerland, around 1,000 quakes are recorded every year as the number of seismometers increases. This year there were already 866.
