15-year-old moped rider fatally injured in collision

A 15-year-old moped rider died on Saturday evening in Unterrindal SG after colliding with a car. The accident occurred because a 24-year-old driver was overtaking several vehicles.
The accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Jonschwilerstrasse, as reported by the St. Gallen cantonal police on Sunday. According to initial findings, the 24-year-old was driving his car in a convoy from Unterrindal in the direction of Jonschwil. He had overtaken vehicles in front of him and collided head-on with the oncoming moped. As a result of the collision, the 15-year-old moped rider was thrown into the adjacent, partly steeply sloping meadow verge, where he lay seriously injured.
Despite the rescue services being called out with an emergency doctor, they had to determine the death of the young Swiss man, who lived in the area, it was reported. According to the statement, several patrols and specialists from the St.Gallen cantonal police, two rescue services with an emergency doctor, a public prosecutor, a care team and the local fire department, which signaled a detour for the closed road, were deployed.
