There have been several burglaries at businesses in Valais over the past week. An 18-year-old suspected perpetrator was arrested and remanded in custody.
A restaurant and a petrol station store were broken into in Brig-Glis on Thursday night, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Tuesday. The police subsequently deployed an "extensive manhunt" to track down the perpetrators, who had previously fled.
When a person fled from a police vehicle in the early morning, the patrol took up the chase and arrested the person. The police discovered the loot from the previous burglaries in one of the man's shoulder bags.
The alleged perpetrator, an 18-year-old Moroccan national, was remanded in custody. The public prosecutor's office initiated an investigation.
Last Tuesday night, an unknown perpetrator committed a total of eleven burglaries in the Upper and Middle Valais, some of which were similar. Whether there is a connection between the burglaries and how many perpetrators were involved is the subject of ongoing investigations.
The total damage caused by the thirteen break-ins amounted to "several thousand francs", said a spokesperson for the cantonal police on request. In addition to money, cell phones and food were also stolen.
