Around 28,000 people marched through the streets of Lucerne on Tuesday night during the carnival. The night of Güdisdienstag was very peaceful, according to the Lucerne police.
Any incipient clashes were quickly broken up, according to a statement from the Lucerne police on Tuesday morning on the online platform X (formerly Twitter). Güdisdienstag marks the end of carnival in the canton.
The day before, on Güdismonday, the Wey parade had already attracted around 50,000 spectators to Lucerne's lake basin. Güdismontag is the second big carnival day in Lucerne after Schmutziger Donnerstag. It is the day of honour of the Wey guild, which organizes the daily wake-up at 06:00 every morning. According to the police, the parade was also peaceful.
