The Swiss Federal Council elections took place on Sunday, with the centre-right party emerging as the strongest force in the small chamber, securing 10 seats. The FDP is currently the second strongest party with nine seats. 31 of the 46 mandates have been allocated, with 10 cantons requiring a second round of voting. The SP holds 5 seats, the SVP 4 and the Greens 3.

The biggest surprise of the day was Petra Gössi (FDP) in Schwyz, Pierre-Yves Maillard (SP) in Vaud and Baptiste Hurni (SP) in Neuchâtel. Gössi replaced the incumbent Othmar Reichmuth (Mitte) in the small chamber, while Maillard achieved an absolute majority in the first round of voting. In Neuchâtel, the SP gained a seat at the expense of the FDP, with Hurni replacing Philippe Bauer (FDP).

The Mitte-Partei still has three incumbents in the running for the second round of voting, including Beat Rieder (VS) and Isabelle Chassot (FR). From the FDP, Johanna Gapany (FR) and Pascal Broulis (Vaud) will also need to compete in the second round. The SVP has two incumbents in the running, Alex Kuprecht (Schwyz) and Carlo Salzmann (Bern). The Greens have Lisa Mazzone (Geneva) and the SP have Philippe Nantermod (Valais) and Simon Stocker (Schaffhausen).
