Around 350 demonstrators gathered at the train station in Küblis GR on Saturday morning to walk to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and fight for climate justice. Their criticism was directed at the high-ranking guests, but also at the authorities.

"Fuck Capitalism", "Eat the Rich" and "Make them pay" were among the slogans on the demonstrators' numerous banners. They traveled from Switzerland, Germany and Austria to Küblis GR to protest for climate issues and social justice for two days in minus nine degrees.

Criticism of the route

There was also criticism of the route that led them to Davos. "We were not allowed to walk on the cantonal road," said an organizer of "Strike-WEF" to the Keystone-SDA news agency. This would make them less visible and further restrict their options. They were also banned from marching through Davos. On Sunday, they will have to take the train for the last part to Postplatz.

But the main concern remained the same: The fight against capitalism, climate-damaging economic models and the abuse of power. This year's WEF motto "Rebuilding Trust" did not go down well with the organizer. "We have zero trust in the big and powerful people up there," she said. The last few years have shown no improvement in climate issues and social justice.

A protester from Ardez GR compared the WEF to the Graubünden building cartel. It was basically the same arrangements, simply on a grand scale, said the pensioner in an interview with Keystone-SDA. The only thing that has improved compared to 20 years ago is the reduction in police violence towards demonstrators.
