The recycling of electrical appliances in Switzerland has saved 41.7 million tons of CO2 over the past twelve years, according to new figures from the industry association Swico.
The recycling of gold, silver and palladium is particularly important. These raw materials have a particularly high impact on the environment during mining, which is why recycling is particularly worthwhile for climate protection reasons. The precious metals collected each year are worth around CHF 12 million.
Swico has been collecting old IT, office, consumer electronics, photo and film equipment since 1994. Today, 90 percent of electronic devices sold in Switzerland are recycled at the end of their useful life.
