The innovation promotion agency Innosuisse awarded a good CHF 490 million in 2023. This represents the highest level of funding awards to date. Almost 600 start-ups were in the agency's support program at the end of the year. According to the Federal Council, it is therefore on track for the period 2021 to 2024.
The call for proposals due to Switzerland's exclusion from the EU's Horizon research program is partly responsible for the highest level of funding commitments, as the Federal Council announced on Wednesday when adopting the Innosuisse annual report. Applications for inclusion in the coaching program also reached an all-time high.
Innosuisse also prepared two international presidencies in 2023. In 2024, the agency will chair the umbrella organization of European innovation agencies. In addition, the candidacy for the chairmanship of the intergovernmental innovation initiative Eureka from July 2025 was successful.
2023 was characterized by a paradigm shift for Innosuisse. Since the beginning of the year, the agency has been directly supporting start-ups before they enter the market. It has also introduced an instrument for thematic project funding for the current funding period.
