52 people and several pets were evacuated in the night to Sunday due to a house fire in Yverdon-les-Bains VD. No one was injured in the fire, according to the Vaud cantonal police. They are assuming foul play.

A corresponding investigation has been initiated by the public prosecutor's office. The residents of the affected building and the two neighboring buildings were evacuated.

According to the police, the operation was particularly delicate as most of the apartments were sheltered accommodation belonging to a neighboring foundation and occupied by people with reduced mobility.

According to the police report, the fact that no one was injured is thanks to the quick action of a witness. Shortly after four o'clock in the morning, the witness informed the police and emergency services that there was a fire on the first floor of a building.

The firefighters were able to contain the fire, which had spread to the upper floors via the façade. According to the police statement, most of the residents were able to return to their homes in the morning.
