The 13th Global Climate Strike on Friday saw an estimated 6500 people take to the streets in eight cities across Switzerland. The movement cited the "catastrophic summer" and diminishing trust in the political system's ability to act as the main reasons for mobilisation. Elections, referendums and demonstrations are important, but climate protection must now be taken into our own hands, the Climate Strike declared. Even a ten percent increase in the vote for a climate-friendly party cannot stop the climate crisis. Many people are now considering how they can act outside of institutional politics to fight for climate justice and an end to the fossil age. Political institutions are too weak against the power of the fossil lobby. A strong civil society and a total societal transformation is needed. The demonstrators called for a rapid exit from fossil fuels and a system change to meet the goal of 1.5 degrees of global warming. The Climate Strike also invited people to join the national climate demonstration in Bern on 30th September.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
