A 75-year-old man fell from a horse-drawn carriage in Gossau SG on Sunday. He sustained unspecified injuries, according to the St. Gallen cantonal police. One of the horses pulling the carriage had to be euthanized.

The coachman had fallen off the carriage near a level crossing for reasons as yet unknown. According to the police report, the horses then ran on without their coachman. However, one of the horses crashed into a boulder shortly afterwards.

The animal fell over and got caught under the carriage, which had also tipped over. It was so badly injured that it had to be put down by a vet. The second horse was only slightly injured. The carriage remained undamaged.
