The Board of Directors of Schauspielhaus Zürich has appointed the future artistic directors: Pinar Karabulut and Rafael Sanchez will take the helm together from the 2025/26 season. The contract is valid for five years.
With this election, a new generation of theater makers will take over the management, the Schauspielhaus announced on Wednesday evening.
The works of Karabulut and Sanchez would appeal to a wide audience. Both would stage both classical plays and new texts with great success. Karabulut is also active as an opera director.
Sanchez was born in Basel and is the former co-director of Theater Neumarkt in Zurich. Karabulut comes from Germany, but has also worked in Basel.
The current co-directors Nicolas Stemann and Benjamin von Blomberg will leave the theater in summer 2024. Ulrich Khuon will take over the directorship for the 2024/25 season.
