A permanently installed wildlife camera has recorded a wolf for the first time in the Röttler Forest in Lörrach in southern Baden (Germany). The images were taken at the end of May, but have only now been analyzed, as the authorities of the district of Lörrach announced on Wednesday.

The animal sighted is presumably the male wolf GW4070m, which has been recorded in the district for some time. Recently, a wolf also fell into the photo trap in Marzell in the same district. However, a conclusive explanation as to whether it is the same animal is only possible with a comparison of genetic material, as stated in the press release. This is possible after wolf kills, for example.

The increasing number of wolves in Germany is leading to an increased need for advice. For this reason, the position of wildlife officer in the district of Lörrach, who will also provide information on the subject of wolves, will be filled for the first time in July.

The Röttler Forest is a fauna-flora habitat in Baden-Württemberg not far from the Swiss border. The area is known as an excursion destination in the Dreiland region and in the Basel region because of the Rötteln castle ruins.
