The Zurich pastor and President of the Swiss Protestant Reformed Church, Rita Famos, is the new President of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (Geke). The three-member presidium is completed by Bishop Marko Titus from Estonia and Georg Plasger from the Protestant Church in the Rhineland.

The Geke is an association of Protestant churches. Its members include around 100 Lutheran, Methodist and Reformed churches from over 30 countries in Europe and South America, which together represent around 50 million Protestant Christians, according to a press release issued on Monday.

The Swiss Protestant Reformed Church has been a leading member of the Council since the early days of the Geke and usually also plays an active role in the presidency, the statement continues. In 2020, 58-year-old theologian Rita Famos became the first woman to take over the presidency of the Swiss Protestant Reformed Church.
