A truck caught fire on the A2 between Amsteg and Wassen UR on Thursday night. No one was injured, according to the Uri cantonal police.

After a temporary closure early Thursday morning, the highway was once again passable in both directions, as a spokesperson for the Uri cantonal police told the Keystone-SDA news agency. The truck had been extinguished and transported away.

On the affected section of the A2 southbound, only one lane was open for the time being, the spokesman added. The police were therefore expecting a possible tailback. In the northbound direction, both lanes of the highway were open.

In the meantime, the Gotthard road tunnel was also closed, as the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) announced on the X platform, formerly Twitter. According to the police, this was a safety measure due to the fire-fighting work. The tunnel was open again in both directions early Thursday morning.
