Thierry Burkart (FDP) is currently leading the field in the Aargau Council of States elections, according to preliminary results. National Council members Benjamin Giezendanner (SVP) and Gabriela Suter (SP) follow. 139 of 198 municipalities have been counted. Burkart is the only one to have achieved an absolute majority. Giezendanner has received significantly more votes than Suter. Marianne Binder-Keller (Mitte), Irène Kälin (Green), Barbara Portmann (GLP) and Lilian Studer (EVP) follow. After the resignation of Hansjörg Knecht (SVP), one seat in the Council of States is vacant. Burkart, president of the Swiss FDP, was elected to the Council of States for the first time four years ago.
