The four female candidates for the Ständerat in the canton of Aargau have decided to unite behind Marianne Binder-Keller (Mitte) and withdraw from the second round of voting. This is in order to prevent the election of SVP Nationalrat Benjamin Giezendanner. The three other candidates, Nationalrätinnen Irène Kälin (Grüne), Barbara Portmann (GLP) and Lilian Studer (EVP) believe that Binder-Keller has the best chance of winning the second seat in the second round of voting on 19 November. They are convinced that their decision will pave the way for an Aargauer woman to enter the Ständerat. They expect Binder-Keller to remember that the Climate Alliance paved the way for her election. This decision follows SP-Kandidatin Gabriela Suter's withdrawal on Monday.
