Artificial intelligence has established itself in Switzerland in a short space of time. A survey by the University of Zurich shows that 93% of 16 to 29-year-olds have already used ChatGPT or similar programs.

According to the study published on Thursday, there are differences in usage between age groups. For example, 72 percent of over 70-year-olds have never used artificial intelligence. Across all age groups, 54 percent of respondents have already used AI.

In addition to the differences in age groups, the survey also revealed differences in educational background. 70 percent with a high level of education used AI, but only 37 percent with a low level of education. The University of Zurich assumes that the existing digital inequalities in Switzerland will become even more pronounced with AI.

A certain skepticism remains

Around a year and a half after the market launch in Switzerland, the reason for use is often still experimental. 54 percent cited curiosity as the reason. However, 38% of respondents already used AI to process long texts, solve academic or professional problems or learn new things.

Obviously, a certain degree of skepticism remains: many non-users believe that artificial intelligence often generates false information. 54% of respondents are against its use by children.

The University of Zurich conducted the survey together with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRG. 1000 people took part.
