Actress Anasuya Sengupta from the Swiss co-production "The Shameless" has been named best actress in the side competition at the Cannes Film Festival. The thriller tells the story of two prostitutes in India.
The film by director Konstantin Bojanov celebrated its world premiere in Cannes a week ago in the presence of Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider. "Le procès du chien" by Laetitia Dosch, the other Swiss film in the 18-film competition, came away empty-handed.
The main prize in the "Un Certain Regard" section on Friday evening went to the film "Black Dog" by Chinese director Guan Hu. The jury prize went to Boris Lojkine's social drama "The Story of Souleymane".
The prize for best director is shared this year by Roberto Minvervini ("The Damned") and Rungano Nyoni ("On Becoming a Guinea Fowl"). The jury chose Abou Sangare ("The Story of Souleymane") as best actor. Louise Courvoisier won the newcomer award for "Holy Cow".
