Another long traffic jam in front of the Gotthard road tunnel

The heavy southbound traffic continued on Sunday. In the afternoon, a traffic jam 16 kilometers long formed in front of the north portal of the Gotthard road tunnel in Göschenen UR.
For drivers, this meant a waiting time of two hours and 40 minutes, as announced by the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) on the short message service X. The highway entrances in Göschenen and Wassen were closed.
By midday, the traffic jam at the Gotthard north portal had already reached a length of ten kilometers. The traffic information services recommended the San Bernardino route through the canton of Graubünden or the A9 via Simplon through the Valais as alternative routes.
A traffic jam up to 15 kilometers long had already formed on the A2 in the canton of Uri on Saturday. The traffic jam only cleared up in the early evening hours.
