On Saturday, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Bern for more climate protection. Speakers at the Federal Palace called for radical measures to combat the already noticeable climate crisis. The crowd was too large for the Federal Square, so many people moved to the adjacent squares and side streets. The main demand of the rally was climate justice. The climate crisis exacerbates existing inequalities on a global scale, according to a call. The countries of the Global North are responsible for the crisis, and its worst effects are first felt by people in the South. The demonstration was led by the Climate Alliance Switzerland, which includes more than 140 organizations from the environment, development, churches, youth, trade unions and consumer protection. The demonstration took place 22 days before the next Swiss elections, and the organizers estimated that there were over 60,000 demonstrators. The Climate Alliance Switzerland called for new elections, citing the "total failure" of the Council of States in the revision of the CO2 law. The rally highlighted the effects of the climate crisis on all aspects of society, and called for urgent action to address the crisis.
