The army is continuing its deployment in Ticino to deal with the storm from the end of June until July 28. The Ticino government had requested this extension of the support mission for the civilian authorities, as announced on Thursday.

The federal government approved the extended deployment. According to the responsible cantonal administration in Ticino, the move allows the construction of the temporary bridge in Cevio to be completed by the army's disaster relief standby battalion.

This bridge replaces the collapsed Visletto Bridge and reconnects the lower Maggia Valley with the upper Maggia Valley. In addition, firefighters in the Lavizzara Valley in the upper Maggia Valley will help with clean-up and repair work. They will be supported by private companies and volunteers.
