On Monday, the army began its assistance service for the Ukraine peace conference on the Bürgenstock NW. The majority of the troops moved in. From June 5 to 19, up to 4,000 members of the armed forces will be helping with various tasks.

These tasks include object protection, surveillance, command support and logistics, as the army announced. The army is also stepping up measures to safeguard air sovereignty. At the request of the canton of Nidwalden, the Federal Council had imposed airspace restrictions and decided to deploy the army on a subsidiary security mission.

In this way, the army supports the civilian authorities, who are responsible for its deployment. Specifically, the military personnel help the Nidwalden cantonal police to protect critical facilities and air transports. They also provide surveillance and interventions on the lakes, logistics and command support.

According to the information provided, these services supplement the security arrangements of the cantonal authorities. The Ukraine peace conference will take place on June 15 and 16.
