Army Sends Militia Members to Forest Fire Area in Upper Valais

The Swiss Army is sending militia members to help fight the forest fire in the Oberwallis region from Wednesday. Two Super Puma helicopters are already in use and a second one will be deployed from Wednesday. The Army will also provide a Super Puma for direct firefighting in the area above Bitsch/Ried-Mörel in the coming days. In addition, from Wednesday, firefighting specialists from the Genie/Rescue/ABC unit and infantry personnel with two specially equipped vehicles will support the civilian forces in locating hot spots and fire nests. The search for fire nests will mainly take place in the cooler evening and night hours.
