Unknown persons blew up an ATM in Montagny-près-Yverdon VD early Tuesday morning. The suspects fled in an unknown direction but were unable to make any loot.
The Vaud cantonal police announced that a large contingent of officers had been deployed to arrest them. They are still being searched for.
The plant was severely damaged by the explosions. The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland was informed due to the suspected use of explosives. It is leading the investigation together with investigators from the Federal Police (Fedpol) and the Vaud cantonal police.
Series of attacks
It was already the third explosives attack on an ATM in the canton of Vaud within a month. A week ago, ATM crackers were at work in Sainte-Croix and just over three weeks ago in Savigny.
According to a Fedpol count, there have been 19 confirmed explosives attacks on ATMs across the country so far this year. In addition, there has been one suspected attempt at an attack that did not result in a detonation.
Four other ATMs were broken into, one was electronically manipulated and two others were ripped out with a rope, among other things. This means that there have already been 27 attacks on ATMs across Switzerland this year. There were 32 in the previous year and 57 in 2022.
